Kenya used a high-level UNGA event co-hosted with Norway to put clean cooking in public institutions before potential investors.
The government presented an estimated $600 million investment opportunity to replace existing cooking systems in schools, health facilities and correctional institutions with cleaner alternatives. The event brought together partners including the International Energy Agency and the Clean Cooking Alliance.
Cleaner cooking systems could reduce reliance on polluting fuels in institutions that prepare meals at scale. Kenya plans to host the Second Africa Clean Cooking Summit in January 2027, providing another opportunity to advance the proposal.
