Kenya and UNIDO sign industrialisation programme targeting $750 million in investment

Kenya has signed a five-year Country Partnership Programme with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), giving its manufacturing ambitions a new framework for attracting investment.

The programme, covering 2026 to 2030, aims to mobilise approximately $750 million in associated investment opportunities. It is designed to support technology transfer, enterprise development, industrial policy and the integration of Kenyan producers into regional and global supply chains.

President William Ruto presented industrialisation as a way for African countries to retain more value from their resources and create jobs at home. For Kenya, the agreement gives government and UNIDO a basis for turning that argument into specific projects.

The $750 million figure is an investment target associated with the programme, rather than funding already disbursed. Its impact will depend on the projects financed and implemented over the next five years.
