Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has issued a fierce ultimatum to political saboteurs, declaring that hypocrites will not be allowed to derail the opposition’s 2027 momentum as he threw his full weight behind Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s presidential bid.
Speaking at a funeral in Central Nyakach, Kisumu County, Babu did not hold back. “Those hypocrites who have been sent to bring games into Linda Mwananchi must stop. We will not be intimidated,” he thundered, warning those sowing discord within the movement to back off.
Squashing any rumours of a fallout with Sifuna, Babu declared his absolute loyalty. “Sifuna ni ndugu yangu, na sitamwacha nyuma kwa sababu mimi ndiye tulianza na yeye. I am supporting Edwin Sifuna 100 percent. No one in Linda Mwananchi knows him more than I do,” he said.
The MP outlined a strategic political roadmap, revealing that Sifuna will lead the Ukombozi Party while he takes charge of The Mwananchi Party, with both outfits locking arms to form the Linda Mwananchi coalition. He called for a united opposition front, naming Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i, and Kawira Mwangaza as key figures who must be brought on board.
Babu’s remarks come amid internal tensions over the movement’s political vehicle, with some leaders pushing for Ukombozi while Babu insists his Mwananchi Party should carry the coalition. Dismissing claims of a split, he emphasized that the coalition would eventually expand to form a larger alternative government to challenge President William Ruto.
Meanwhile, Babu confirmed his own political ambitions, stating he will run for Nairobi governor in 2027 to secure control of the county assembly and effectively deliver for city residents.
