Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has fired a sharp warning at his predecessor Rigathi Gachagua, telling him to keep their political battles away from him following a violent confrontation at a UDA meeting in Embu County.
In a social media post on Sunday, Kindiki dismissed Gachagua’s attempts to drag him into the escalating feud over Saturday’s chaos at Nembure Stadium, where one person died, several others were injured, and six vehicles were torched.
“Wamitego, concentrate on your trap-making agenda, wachana na FAYA MAN. Hata sijaanza… You will soon realize how stupid it was to bring your fights with other people to me,” Kindiki wrote.
The deputy president’s remarks came after Gachagua directly accused him of orchestrating police action against civilians and plotting to arrest Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji over the violence.
The Nembure meeting, which Kindiki described as a gathering of over 15,000 UDA polling-centre officials, descended into chaos when a group attempted to storm the venue. Police used tear gas to disperse the crowd, and Kindiki was evacuated from the scene.
Gachagua claimed Kindiki had instructed police to “deal with wananchi” and alleged that two people were killed, though police maintained only one fatality occurred. He also accused Kindiki of using a Ksh350 million fund allegedly provided by President William Ruto to bribe residents in Embu, Meru, and Tharaka Nithi counties.
Kindiki rejected the bribery allegations outright, stating that residents of the Mount Kenya region could not be bought.
“Nobody can bribe them to do anything they wouldn’t want to do. No mountain will be divided, maybe in your evil dreams,” he said.
He further dismissed Gachagua’s claims about splitting the GEMA community, telling his predecessor: “Me and you found the GEMA united; it will forever remain so, and you have zero capacity to unite anything. Wachana na Mountain; it has its ways of remaining intact. Tafuta sera, let’s meet at the BALLOT”.
Gachagua had earlier claimed that police had surrounded Mukunji’s home in an attempt to arrest the lawmaker, and said he had mobilised lawyers to defend him. Mukunji has denied any role in the violence, questioning why he was being blamed for disruption at a meeting he did not attend.
The exchange marks the latest escalation in the long-running feud between Kindiki and Gachagua, which has intensified ahead of the 2027 General Election.
