Embu, Sept. 12 — Former senator Lenny Kivuti has condemned the organised violence that erupted at Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s UDA meeting in Embu, warning that political rivalry must never be allowed to tip into chaos.
“Although we denounce goonism, it is very bad if some organised groups go to disrupt a meeting,” Kivuti said, adding, “We have continually said we don’t want violence in our county.”
The chaos broke out at Nemburi Grounds in Manyatta Constituency during the meeting hosted by Kindiki and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, with police firing tear gas to disperse crowds as multiple vehicles were damaged. Unverified reports suggested possible fatalities, though numbers could not be independently confirmed.
Kivuti insisted the rejection of violence applies regardless of whose rally is targeted, urging that “political competition should not be allowed to undermine peace in Embu” as rival camps jostle for ground ahead of 2027.
