Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has unveiled an ambitious political leadership structure for the Linda Mwananchi Party, bringing together seasoned politicians, regional power brokers and prominent professionals as the movement begins building its machinery for the 2027 General Election.
The proposed line-up, announced today, during the inauguration of the party’s national headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, places Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi at the centre of its organisational architecture as national chairperson, deputised by former Makadara MP Reuben Ndolo.
Sifuna, who has been endorsed as the party leader and its preferred presidential candidate, proposed Suba South MP Caroli Omondi as Secretary General, with political commentator and communications strategist Pauline Njoroge as his deputy. Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka was named as the proposed national treasurer, deputised by Abigail Gikonyo.
The deputy party leadership is designed to accommodate regional interests. Former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, Mavoko MP Patrick Makau and former Law Society of Kenya president Faith Odhiambo were proposed for three of the four positions. The remaining slot has been reserved for a representative from the Coast region, with consultations still underway.
Perhaps the most politically consequential appointment is that of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, who has been proposed to chair the party’s Board of Trustees and lead Sifuna’s presidential campaign. Faith Odhiambo is expected to deputise him in the campaign structure. The arrangement places Natembeya in a position of considerable influence over the movement’s electoral strategy, although it does not make him its presidential candidate.
Other appointments reflect an attempt to establish a functioning national political organisation beyond its prominent political figures. Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale was proposed as Secretary for Political Affairs, while Kari Karani was named Organising Secretary. The proposed structure also incorporates women, youth and minority representatives, with Caroline Mayungu heading the Women’s League and Fridah Onduso proposed to lead the Youth League.
The unveiling attracted opposition heavyweights, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, giving the occasion significance beyond an internal party exercise.
Nevertheless, the appointments remain proposals awaiting consideration and endorsement at the party’s National Delegates Convention scheduled for November 13.
For Sifuna, the challenge now extends beyond assembling recognisable political names. He must build county-level structures, attract candidates and consolidate a national constituency capable of translating political enthusiasm into votes. Linda Mwananchi has unveiled its leadership; the harder task is demonstrating that it can command the country’s political imagination.
